چکیده

With the growth of computer networks for business transactions and communication of confidential information there is an ever increasing need for encryption to ensure that this information cannot be acquired by third parties. Remarkably, the seemingly unrelated philosophical foundations of quantum mechanics are now being brought to bear directly on the problem of communications security in the potentially practical emerging technology of quantum cryptography. In this paper we shall review the theory of quantum cryptography, its potential applications and its use in optical fiber cable networks. Keyword—Cryptography, Quantum Mechanics, QKD, Fiber optic.

Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) over Cable TV’s Hybrid Fiber/Coax (HFC) Networks

Broadband access technologies of DSL and Cable Modem (CM) are now widely deployed by competing telecom and cable TV network operators respectively. Fiber-based FTTP (FTTH, FTTB, etc.) will be the ultimate access solutions. This paper will examine the broadband access network evolution options for FTTP over cable TV’s HFC networks and discuss its competitiveness when compared with telecom networ...

News Feature: Code wars

In October 2014, an Antares rocket blasted off from a NASA launch pad on one of Virginia’s barrier islands, and exploded seconds later. In addition to about 5,000 pounds of food and equipment destined for the International Space Station, the doomed rocket was carrying 26 miniature satellites called CubeSats, one of which housed physicist Alexander Ling’s experiment. “We thought, ‘oh, that’s it,...

High-quality fiber-optic polarization entanglement distribution at 1.3 microm telecom wavelength.

We demonstrate high-quality distribution of 1.3 microm polarization-entangled photons generated from a fiber-coupled periodically poled KTiOPO(4) waveguide over 200 m fiber-optic cables. Time-multiplexed measurements with a 19% efficient superconducting nanowire single-photon detector at the remote location show a detected flux of 5.8 pairs/s at a pump power of 25 microW and an average two-phot...
